Expert Q&A

I am an aerobics instructor and currently in my 29th week of pregnancy. I am still instructing step classes and plan to do so for as long as possibleuntil I deliver. I feel great after a teaching a classs, but I worry sometimes that I am working out too hard since my heart rate gets pretty high and I sweat a lot. Is this harmful to the baby? Should I stop even if I feel good after a good cardio workout?

First, I recommend that you consult your doctor. Second, check the Pregnancy Today Web site for the guidelines for exercise during pregnancy asput forth by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. If there aren't any complications and you don't feel exhausted after exercise, then great! Continue to be aware of how you feel. Make adjustments when required, drink more water than you think you need, and get plenty of rest.
Good luck!
