Expert Q&A

I am still leaking urine sometimes when I exercise, six weeks after delivery. Is that normal?
A small amount of urine leakage is normal for several weeks following delivery. Nerves and muscles of the pelvic floor are sometimes slow to recover following pregnancy and birth. It is important that you start pelvic floor (Kegel) exercises as soon as possible following delivery. The exercises will help strengthen the pelvic floor, and reduce problems with urine leakage. Check with your health care provider if you continue to experience incontinence problems, or if you are uncertain on how to do the exercises. You can contact National Association for Continence at 1-(800)-BLADDER the for pelvic floor exercises and incontinence information."
