Is it OK for my 4-year-old to do taped aerobics with me? She enjoys watching me, and she has started jumping in, but I don't want her to get hurt. It's low impact.
Let me qualify first by saying that I don't know if she has any pre-existing conditions or her current level of activity, so I hate to state unequivocally that your daughter won't get hurt. But generally speaking this should be no problem. As a PE teacher hearing something like this makes me really happy. You are being an excellent role model, and she is getting to do something really fun with Mommy!
Four-year-old kids live a very ballistic life because of all that energy. They run, jump, climb, etc. Adding a little low-impact aerobics should not be dangerous.
I would suggest letting her go at her own pace and keeping the activity fun. Also, children cannot regulate their body temperature as well as us adults, so if she really gets going make sure she drinks plenty of water and let her rest when she gets tired.
Good luck it sounds like you are on the way to having a very healthy child. Thanks for the question.
