The Licata Family
Fit Family Profile
By Pamela Staub Pelino
You know the family who seems to have it all? You know, that high-energy type. The ones who, despite being crazy busy, manage to keep fitness a top priority? Meet the Licatas from Vermont. They're that family.
Tom and Anita Licata are certainly the kind of couple who like to get the most out of life. Their positive outlook on life and can-do attitude have definitely carried over to their two children – Isabelle, age 8, and Thomas, age 10. With families, children's activities, careers and maintaining a house, it's easy to forget about the things you once loved to do. But Tom and Anita have stayed true to the things they love while raising their family.
Anita spends her weekdays working as a successful dermatologist. Although this Yale grad loves her work in medicine, her first real love was always dancing. After many years of dance, she spent some time with the Contemporary Dance Theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio. Fascinated with the human body, Anita decided that the medical field was where she belonged. But even after going to medical school, having a busy career and two kids, Anita has managed to stay in great shape. How? For starters, she has stayed true to her dancing roots, and regularly does Jazzercize classes. She calls jazzercize "painless exercise," and says, "It's so fun – just dancing to music with a little strength training at the end." And the best part? "It doesn't feel like work."
This busy mom claims that her favorite part of staying active with the family is that "It puts you in a good frame of mind."
