The Licata Family
Fit Family Profile
By Pamela Staub Pelino
When Tom and Anita aren't shuttling kids to sports or being active themselves, they each carve out a little downtime. Anita enjoys knitting, her book club and her occasional girls night out for dinner, while Tom follows foreign affairs, politics, reading and rooting for the Buffalo Bills.
Anita's tips for keeping it healthy when it comes to nutrition? It's all about preperation. She tries to chop veggies for a few meals instead of just one. Then presto! Take out the chopped veggies and quickly assemble a meal. She admits that it doesn't always go that smoothly at dinnertime, but a few nights of having the prep work done goes a long way!
Tom's tried and true tactic for sound nutrition? "Keeping the junk out of the house." That's right! If junk food isn't just sitting around, Tom says the temptation isn't there. And Tom tries to always keep fresh fruit around for the kids to snack on.
Tom and Anita have a great routine going for their family. They practice what they preach when it comes to fitness, nutrition and generally treating the body well. Both kids have already developed healthy habits and have learned a lot from their parents. But Tom admits his kids have taught him something too. He says his kids continually surprise him by showing how good kids can be if they are given lots of love, attention and, of course, energy!
