The Licata Family

Fit Family Profile

Most recently, Anita took up running – a sport she didn't naturally love, but decided to challenge herself, and now she's hooked. She took part in her first race, the Vermont City Marathon relay team, in May of 2005.

Leader of the Pack

When it comes to successful dads, Tom Licata is at the top of the list. He's worn many hats, including financial analyst, Boy Scout leader, marathoner and stay-at-home dad. Being at home with the kids allows Tom to take time out for sharing his passion for sports and fitness with both of his children.

For Tom, the change of seasons is his cue to prepare for the next sports season. In the spring, Thomas dons his baseball cap and gets the glove ready, with Coach Dad alongside. And summer weather sets the stage for sailing camp and water skiing. When the cold sets in, most families tend to be less active, but not the Licatas. Frosty temps kick Tom into high gear as he turns the backyard into an ice rink to prepare for hockey season. Impromptu hockey games are the neighborhood norm, and Thomas can't seem to get enough. Of course, they both save enough energy to ski. It's not unusual for the Licatas to have an early hockey game on Saturday morning and head straight for the slopes – a mere hour away.

Tom has always been active, including running races in college, and still hasn't lost his love for running today. He manages to complete the Vermont City Marathon just about every year. While most marathoners train a whopping 17 miles or more to prepare for the long race ahead, Tom trains only an average of five miles as his longest run, yet still manages to complete the race. Tom attributes this to being in overall good shape. And he accomplishes this by doing hard work around the house. With a knack for tidiness, keeping things clean keeps Tom busy. And doing his own landscaping helps Tom to stay in tip-top condition too.
