Time to Share and Relax

The school year can mean a frantic schedule for you and your children. From business meetings to the PTA, from homework to karate lessons, it can be difficult to find time to spend together as a family to share and relax. Family yoga may just be what you are looking for. Yoga has been around for thousands of years helping people unwind and become stress-free. It is wonderful to introduce your children to this practice, as it teaches body awareness, concentration and perseverance. It is also a great way to get you and your kids involved in fitness and can be done anywhere at anytime. Here are a few basic positions that will help you boost your mood, increase your energy and improve the health of your whole family.

Standing Forward Bend

This pose stretches the neck, back of the legs, lower back and calf muscles. Practice with care if you have any severe back problems. You may also do the same moves seated with legs extended.

  1. Stand comfortably with your feet hip distance apart.
  2. Place your hands on your thighs; relax your shoulders as you tuck your chin into your chest.
  3. Slowly walk your hands down your legs, following the natural curve of the spine, bending forward from the hip. Only go as far as you are comfortable, and bend your knees if you need to.
